This Weekend: Chappaqua Performing Arts Center Kicks Off Inaugural Season 9/23

September 20, 2017 by The Inside Press

Opening Night Features Acclaimed Jazz Vocalist CYRILLE AIMÉE Performance and Love Art Gallery Exhibit / Reception Saturday September 23

CHAPPAQUA, NY –  Westchester County’s new hidden treasure, Chappaqua Performing Arts Center, is finally ready to officially open its doors this weekend.

The inaugural season kicks off Saturday, September 23 with an opening night concert by the acclaimed jazz vocalist CYRILLE AIMÉE at 8:00pm. Tickets are $25-$75 are available in advance at Ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 and in person on the night of the show in the lobby box office.

Patrons are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy an entire evening of rich artistic experiences. Chappaqua Performing Arts Center has partnered with the LOVE ART Gallery to present a pop-up exhibition and reception entitled “Art for Positive Social Change” taking place in the lobby of ChappPAC from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The exhibition will feature a group of twelve artists from Connecticut and New York sharing a cross section of works focusing on social issues from race, to feminism to politics.

Described as “one of the most promising jazz singers of her generation” by the Wall Street Journal, CYRILLE AIMÉE is a vocalist with French and Dominican roots who fell in love with gypsy music and its culture heritage at an early age. Aimée grew up in Samois-sur-Seine, France – a village best known as the home of gypsy guitar icon Django Reinhardt – and its little wonder that its legacy resonates throughout her performances and recordings. In recent years Aimée has toured and recorded in a variety of ensembles configurations, among them, various duet projects with  Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo. Her rich hybrid of influences has resulted in an award-winning vocal style that incorporates gypsy swing with Brazilian rhythms and melodies into well-known standards and original compositions that led the New York Times to proclaim, “No other young artist gives me hope for the future like Cyrille Aimée, the brilliantly inventive jazz vocal prodigy.”

Located on the former campus of Reader’s Digest in a building once known as the Wallace Auditorium, the 425-seat Chappaqua Performing Arts Center — or ChappPAC for short – was recently saved from demolition and established to provide a blend of local and national arts and cultural programming for people throughout Westchester County and the region.

‘What Happened’ Book Signing by Hillary Clinton: A SOLD OUT Event at the Chappaqua Library

September 15, 2017 by The Inside Press

On Saturday, September 23, 3-5 p.m., the Chappaqua Library will host a now SOLD OUT book signing event for Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton and her already much discussed new title What Happened.

This will be Clinton’s third book signing at the Library following packed and also sold out events over the years at the Chappaqua Library too for signings of It Takes a Village and Hard Choices.

“Hillary Clinton is a really strong supporter of the local library,” noted Pamela Thornton, executive director of the Chappaqua Library. “We are always glad to host her when asked. Of course as you can imagine, the logistics take a great deal of preparation for safety and security reasons but it’s always an exciting event. It’s a special event for everyone.

“It’s a unique opportunity for local residents to meet  Secretary Clinton and have a book personally signed by her,” Thornton added. “But she’s also a resident of Chappaqua and a local author who chooses to support her community and library by being here.”     — Grace Bennett

The Library’s release noted the following for attendees:

This is a book signing only. Each $32 ticket (including tax) includes a wristband to access the signing line, as well as ONE hardcover copy of What Happened; books are distributed at the signing table. YOU MUST BRING YOUR TICKET TO THE EVENT.

Wristbands for entry will be distributed to ticketholders beginning at 9:00 AM on the day of the event. Please arrive no earlier than 9:00 AM and no later than 4:30 PM. All ticketholders will have their book(s) signed.   Additional copies of What Happened, as well as Clinton’s new children’s picture book It Takes a Village, will be available for sale on site through Scattered Books and the Village Bookstore.  Clinton will sign up to two (2) books total per customer (signature only, no personalization).

No other books or memorabilia, personalizing, or posing for photos.

Due to increased security, customers will not be allowed to bring any large items (bags, chairs, etc.) into the event space. A bag check will be provided.

The Chappaqua Library also offered thanks to Scattered Books and the Village Bookstore “for making this event possible.”

Dental Care Timeline for a Lifetime of Healthy Teeth

August 28, 2017 by The Inside Press

By Dr. Aki Shirakura

Good oral hygiene is critical – especially for children. Following this basic timeline can insure a lifetime of healthy teeth!

Baby Steps (0 – 6 mos)

RELAX, no need to worry yet.

Stop Teething Me! (6 mos – 1 year)

As soon as that first tooth breaks through, time to start brushing. Using a baby tooth brush with soft bristles and water, gently brush the teeth and gums.

Open Wide – First Trip to the Dentist (1 – 2 years)

Your child’s first trip doesn’t have to be traumatic. Leading up to the appointment prepare your little one, get them excited about it. This is what to expect:
• The dentist counts your child’s teeth, making sure everything is developing properly.
• Teeth can be cleaned to remove any plaque or stains – the kids usually enjoy this part!
• Fluoride treatment to strengthen teeth and prevent decay.

X-Ray Vision (6 years)

To make sure everything is progressing properly, the dentist will recommend a panoramic x-ray. This shows the entire mouth including future adult teeth.

Seal the Deal – Sealants (6 – 7 years)

To prevent cavities, we recommend sealing your child’s six-year-old molar teeth. The application is fast and comfortable and can effectively protect teeth for many years.

The Tooth Fairy Years (7–11 years)

These are the years of great changes. Every time you look in your child’s mouth, another wiggly tooth! Most of your child’s teeth will change from baby teeth to permanent.

Sign, Sealed, Delivered (12 – 13 years)

At about 12 years old, 2nd molars come out. They need to be sealed like 6-year-old molars.

Uncharted Areas – Periodontal Charting (17+)

Periodontal charting is a procedure to detect signs of gum disease. The gums are measured, watching for signs of inflammation, recession, and gum disease. Early detection of Periodontal or Gum
Disease is critical in treating it.

Most importantly, children and adults should always visit their dentist at least twice a year. With proper dental care, you can insure the health of your teeth and gums for a lifetime.

Dr. Aki Shirakura and Associates is located in the heart of Armonk Village at 40 Bedford Road. Call us today (914) 273-9280 to take the first step to a lifetime of healthy teeth for your whole family.

Keep smiling!

Savor Each Page

August 26, 2017 by The Inside Press

Summer and the living is preparing residents and visitors alike for different fall downtown events and fundraisers both as official ‘media sponsor’ and/or as a community-friendly ‘hyperlocal’ and merchant supported/reader coveted pub. We’re ‘all over the net’ too at theinsidepress.com and largely on Facebook. Keeps us on our toes, especially while also gathering so many additional, equally compelling profiles around our back to school theme. Grateful to Stacey Pfeffer, our new editor for both editions for writing and producing several stories in both editions (all while getting her feet wet in her new role! Bravo!)  There are so many fundraisers we are promoting both in story and/or in a sponsor spot, so be sure to savor each page and ‘Save the Date’ for whatever strikes your fancy or piques your interest.
Readers, please feel free to let us know when you visit or call a sponsor or attend an event because of ‘what you saw’ in our pages. And sponsors, likewise, please do let us know about a happy customer or two, and we’ll happily publish your experience some time, and voila, more press for you. Drop a note at my new email: grace@insidepress.com. In the meantime, summer’s fading fast. Get outdoors (if you enjoy cycling, maybe first check out our Biking story?), and enjoy! I plan to.
