Still Time to Fundraise for Local Support Connection Cancer Walk
Yorktown Heights, NY– Support Connection, Inc., a not-for-profit organization offering free support services to people affected by breast and ovarian cancer, says there’s still time to raise funds for their Annual Support-A-Walk for Breast and Ovarian Cancer. The Support-A-Walk will take place on Sun., Oct. 1 (rain or shine) at FDR Park, Route 202, Yorktown Heights, NY.
The Support-A-Walk was founded more than twenty years ago by local residents as a way to focus attention on breast and ovarian cancer. Each year, thousands of people take part in this spirited, uplifting event. Participants complete a 3-mile walk, often in honor of loved ones – a celebration of life and a tribute to those affected by breast and ovarian cancer. Families, friends, co-workers and teams of walkers are invited to walk together. Individuals are also welcome.
The Support-A-Walk is Support Connection’s most important annual fundraiser. 88¢ of every dollar donated directly funds their free breast and ovarian cancer support services. Support Connection does not receive funds from any national cancer organizations including Relay for Life, Susan G. Komen, the Avon Walk or Making Strides.
Support Connection’s year-round support services, which are funded by the Walk, have helped thousands of people since the organization was established in 1996. The Support-A-Walk also serves as a major awareness event, bringing attention to the needs of those facing the challenges of a breast and ovarian cancer diagnosis.
It’s easy to raise funds for the Support-A-Walk. Participants can create their own online fundraising pages at www.firstgiving.com/supportconnection/walk2017. Pages can be personalized by the fundraiser, then emailed to friends and family asking them to sponsor with a donation. Fundraisers can seek donations by check or cash too. People can fundraise even if they can’t attend.
Direct donations are also accepted from anyone who wishes to help. To learn more about raising funds or to make a donation, visit www.supportconnection.org/donate-and-fundraise or contact Support Connection: 914-962-6402, walk@supportconnection.org.

Patrons are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy an entire evening of rich artistic experiences. Chappaqua Performing Arts Center has partnered with the LOVE ART Gallery to present a pop-up exhibition and reception entitled “Art for Positive Social Change” taking place in the lobby of ChappPAC from 4:00 to 7:00pm. The exhibition will feature a group of twelve artists from Connecticut and New York sharing a cross section of works focusing on social issues from race, to feminism to politics.
Described as “one of the most promising jazz singers of her generation” by the Wall Street Journal, CYRILLE AIMÉE is a vocalist with French and Dominican roots who fell in love with gypsy music and its culture heritage at an early age. Aimée grew up in Samois-sur-Seine, France – a village best known as the home of gypsy guitar icon Django Reinhardt – and its little wonder that its legacy resonates throughout her performances and recordings. In recent years Aimée has toured and recorded in a variety of ensembles configurations, among them, various duet projects with Brazilian guitarist Diego Figueiredo. Her rich hybrid of influences has resulted in an award-winning vocal style that incorporates gypsy swing with Brazilian rhythms and melodies into well-known standards and original compositions that led the New York Times to proclaim, “No other young artist gives me hope for the future like Cyrille Aimée, the brilliantly inventive jazz vocal prodigy.”
Located on the former campus of Reader’s Digest in a building once known as the Wallace Auditorium, the 425-seat Chappaqua Performing Arts Center — or ChappPAC for short – was recently saved from demolition and established to provide a blend of local and national arts and cultural programming for people throughout Westchester County and the region.

Supporting ‘The Perfect Spot’ at MKCCC’s Feed Me Fresh Gala Fundraiser
Article and Photos by Grace Bennett
Bedford Hills, September 16–In the warm and bucolic setting of gorgeous Ivanna Farms, a spectacular evening unfolded Saturday night with the singular goal of supporting the Mount Kisco Child Care Center (MKCCC), their efforts to provide quality child care and to make child care affordable to as many working parents as possible. The event was MKCCC’s 13th annual ‘Feed Me Fresh’ gala fundraiser and it came complete with mingling and learning early on in the ‘lower tent,’ wonderful music by The Shaves and Chappaqua’s own Jon Cobert, a culinary feast featuring samplings from multiple area restaurants and eateries in the ‘upper tent,’ a live auction, and of course a celebration of MKCCC’s 2017 honorees.
The Honorees were: Eric Hadar (long-time supporter and host with honorary co-chairs Margery Hadar and Karen Newman), Fran Osborne (MKCCC board member and honorary co-chairs Toni Kelly and Betsy Towl) and ‘Team Amy’ and honorary co-chairs Madeline Crabtree and John Crabtree.
Kelly Sullivan, chair of Feed Me Fresh, noted the generous time volunteers give to the event both in terms of planning and decorating, “to throw the nicest party of the year.” Board member and child care expert Barbara Klein related to the Inside Press that her grandchild is now being cared for at MKCCC. “Having run the Chappaqua Children’s Workshop for many years where I worked with older children, this is my first experience observing an infant in child care. I was very impressed with the care and commitment. It’s a setting with very special people doing an amazing job. I firmly believe our family picked the perfect spot.”
Attendees Colleen and Ron Pascione of Millwood proudly stated that they had three children cared for at MKCCC and the oldest now volunteers there too. Chappaqua’s Claire Frieder said she supports the event because of the invaluable ‘peace of mind’ available to working parents “and especially those who can’t afford the regular costs of child care.”
More of the Center’s ‘Feed Me Fresh’ news coming soon and will be added here about the generous support raised ‘to help provide access to quality child care for working families’ at the Mount Kisco Child Care Center. To follow updates about the event too, or to donate, visit mkccc.org.
