The 54th Annual Armonk Outdoor Art Show: “A Fresh and Diverse Tradition”

Named one of “The Elite 100” Fine Art and Fine Craft Fairs in the US by Art Fair Sourcebook and among the top “Fine Art and Design Shows” in the New York Metro Area by Sunshine Artist Magazine, the 54th annual Armonk Outdoor Art Show will continue its long tradition of showcasing a fresh and diverse array of art. Over 185 juried artists from 31 states, Israel and Canada, will be featured—42 new to this year’s show. A broad spectrum of media to suit every taste and budget will be on display, including painting, mixed media, printmaking/drawing/pastels, sculpture, photography/digital art, wearable art, and fine crafts.

This year’s show will feature free guided tours, emerging artists, and fun-filled, kid-friendly activities. We will once again offer personal shoppers, who will be available to help visitors find and select art that best fits their taste and decor. There is ample free parking on site, as well as a diverse food court.

On Friday, September 25th at 7 pm, the North Castle Public Library will show a free documentary entitled “Tim’s Vermeer”. On Saturday, September 26th at 8 pm in the library’s Whippoorwill Hall, Jazz legend Charlie Lagond & Friends will perform “Soulful Serenade…Memphis to Motown to Neo-Soul,” also free to guests.

The Art Show is sponsored by Friends of the North Castle Public Library, Inc., and net proceeds benefit the town’s libraries. New this year for New York City Art Show visitors, Castle Cab Corp. is offering deeply discounted rides ($10 flat rate) to and from the North White Plains train station, with priority drop off at the Show entrance. New Castle Historical Society to Host Sept. 19 Garden Party Fundraiser

The New Castle Historical Society is hosting its first annual “An Evening in Greeley’s Garden” event at the Horace Greeley House Museum on Saturday, September 19, 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The evening will include live music performed by a Civil War Era string band, beer and wine, hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction. The New Castle Historical Society’s Board of Trustees and volunteers, Westchester based artist Cindy Sacks, Kramer Portraits, and Hilltop Wines have each generously provided silent auction items for the event. “The New Castle Historical Society is extremely excited to offer this first time special event at the Greeley House,” said Cassie Ward, Executive Director of the New Castle Historical Society. “The Garden Party is an opportunity for local residents and their guests to experience our museum and grounds in a new and unique way. The Garden Party will provide guests with the chance to experience the museum’s outdoor space similar to the way Horace Greeley did in the mid-1800s when he established his country home and farm in what is now downtown Chappaqua.”

All proceeds from this event will benefit the New Castle Historical Society, a nonprofit educational organization that seeks to discover, preserve, and share knowledge about the history of the Town of New Castle and about the life of Horace Greeley. Established in 1966, the Historical Society maintains a historic collection of artifacts and documents related to the Town of New Castle, it provides programs and exhibits about the Town’s history, and it preserves Horace Greeley’s second home in Chappaqua. The Historical Society will turn 50 next year and will continue to offer expanded programming and activities to encourage a greater interaction with the history and culture of the local area.

In addition to the “An Evening in Greeley’s Garden,” the Historical Society will host an array of new programs this fall. Some of the new programs include:

– A printing press education program for children under 10 (9/27/15),
– A purse party fundraiser for locals that love their accessories (10/17/15),
– An oral history program at the Chappaqua Library where residents will be encouraged to share their stories from the 1960s (10/7/15),
– A 50th Anniversary Kick-Off Party and Last Man Standing Cash Raffle (11/14/15),
– And a “Gold in Your Attic” Pop-Up Store at the Greeley House, just in time for the holidays (12/5/15).

Fare Walk for Food Allergies Comes to Westchester

15 Million Americans with Food Allergies = 15 Million Reasons to Walk

The FARE Walk for Food Allergy, presented by Mylan Specialty L.P., raises critical funds and awareness each year to support Food Allergy Research & Education (FARE) in its mission to improve the quality of life and the health of individuals with food allergies, and to provide them hope through the promise of new treatments.

Join FARE and the food allergy community in Westchester to raise critical funds for and awareness about this growing public health issue. The FARE Walk for Food Allergy in Westchester will be held Saturday, October 10th at Glen Island Park in New Rochelle at 1pm.

This year, tens of thousands of people will gather at walks in nearly 60 communities nationwide to support their loved ones, friends, co-workers and neighbors living with life-threatening food allergies. The FARE Walk for Food Allergy offers fun activities for the entire family while helping to advance food allergy research, education, advocacy and awareness initiatives.

“Fifteen million people in the United States are living with food allergy, a life-altering and potentially life-threatening disease,” said Donna McKelvey, senior vice president and chief development officer at FARE. “It is for each of these individuals and their families that we work to find life-changing treatments, educate, advocate – and of course, walk. Every step we take and every dollar raised brings us closer to the day when we say FAREwell to food allergies.”

Sandi Kornblum, a Westchester resident and parent of a child with food allergies, is Westchester’s Walk Chair. She shares, “I am very excited about the 6th annual food allergy walk in Westchester. We are working diligently and planning a spectacular family day with fun-filled activities for the kids. Please fundraise and register to attend on October10th to help spread awareness as we walk together towards progress and growth in the research and education of food allergies.”

The 2013 and 2014 FARE Walk for Food Allergy programs raised over $3 million each. Participants can sign up to walk individually or as part of a team. All Aboard

Many of us came here to escape the city but we also wanted a reasonable proximity to it! In addition to our wonderful schools and so many other amenities, a major reason many families choose to call New Castle home is the ease of the commute. With so many of us working midtown and on Wall Street, it’s a boon that New Castle makes parking spots available to any resident who needs one. In addition, Metro North service to and from the Chappaqua Station is about as easy as anyone can expect for a northern Westchester suburb.

TNC-005Adam M. Brodsky, Esq., is an elected Councilman on the New Castle Town Board. He is an attorney serving as the Director of Operations and General Counsel for a New York City based commercial real estate firm with a national portfolio of properties. Prior to his current position he was with the firm of Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver and Jacobsen. In addition, Mr. Brodsky is a former member of the Fibernet Telecom Group, Inc. (FTGX) Board of Directors, Muhlenberg College Board of Trustees and a member of the Board of Directors of the Chappaqua Volunteer Ambulance Corp. He is a graduate of Muhlenberg College in Allentown, Pennsylvania and the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City.

States Adam: “My wife Cathy and I have been residents of New Castle for 11 years and have four beautiful children. In fact my wife is even a proud graduate of the Horace Greeley High School. We love the small town charm of New Castle and the close-knit community. There is no better feeling than getting off the train after a tough day at work and taking in that first breath of country air. TNC-002Jason Chapin is an elected Councilman serving his second term on the New Castle Town Board. Jason works for The WorkPlace and manages the statewide job training program in Connecticut. He has lived in New Castle with his wife Chrissy since 1997. They have three children: Anna, Katie and Will.

States Jason: “My family and I enjoy all that our town has to offer, from the events and parks and schools to our neighbors and friends to getting involved with community organizations. TNC-004Lisa Katz, Esq., is an elected Council- woman on the New Castle Town Board, as well as the Deputy Town Supervisor. Lisa is an estate planning, elder law and corporate attorney at the Law Offices of Lisa S. Katz, PLLC in Mount Kisco. She founded this law firm in 2011, after having worked for over 20 years both in private practice at Manhattan law firms and as General Counsel and in-house counsel at various public companies. Lisa graduated from the College of Arts and Sciences and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and from Fordham Law School.

Says Lisa: “I have called New Castle home for the past nine years with my husband, Steven, and our two wonderful children, who attend school here in Chappaqua. We moved here from Manhattan for our fabulous schools, and we spend our weekends running from ball field to ball field, hiking in our parks, attending community concerts, plays and events, buying pies and vegetables at our farmers market and spending time with the lifelong friends we have made here. Everywhere we go we see smiling faces who truly love to be part of this special, bucolic community that feels a world apart from the stresses of New York City, even though it is only a short ride away.” lkatz@mynewcastle.org

 

 

TNC-003Elise Mottel, Esq., is an elected Councilwoman serving her third term on the New Castle Town Board.Prior to becoming a Town Board member, she was a member of the New Castle Conservation Board. Elise is a partner in a New York City law firm specializing in real estate law and affordable housing. She is a graduate of Brandeis University and Hofstra University School of Law.

Recounts Elise: “The first time I visited New Castle was on a Friday evening in June, 1992. My husband and I had been house-hunting all over Westchester County, without great success, when our broker suggested New Castle. That night, as I drove on South Greeley Avenue, the sun was starting to set, and I saw a lighted field with kids playing baseball and parents cheering. There were people sitting in the gazebo. On my right, I saw a beautiful library and a magnificent school that I later learned was the Bell Middle School. I drove through the downtown and fell in love the town’s quaintness, charm and small-town feel. I knew that this was the town I wanted to live in and raise my family. My husband and I moved to New Castle 21 years ago and raised our two children, Jonathan and Beth, with the help of our beloved dog Champ.” ekmottel@mynewcastle.org

 

 

The Town Board is the local legislative and policymaking body made up of five elected members serving four year terms. Work sessions and board meetings are held on alternate Tuesday evenings at Town Hall and are open to the public, with public commentary welcomed during board meetings.

The New Castle League’s most visible activities are the Voters Guides for the fall election, distributed to all residents in New Castle free of charge, and Candidates’ Nights. Candidate information is made available online at vote411.org. The League holds several forums every year on topics of national and local interest, including its biannual “Conversation with the New Castle Town Supervisor.” Recent forums focused on health care, climate change and campaign finance reform. The League is open to both men and women. Even high school students have a place in the League. Every year the New Castle League sends a student to the State League’s four-day Students Inside Albany conference to learn about State government. Finally, the League works to influence governmental policy after study and consensus among its members, taking a position on an issue and advocating for change. The League welcomes new members.
