For 125th Anniversary, White Plains Hospital Employees Lead Donation Drives

Physicians, Nurses, Leadership, Non-Clinical Staff Rally Together to Support Westchester Communities

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (March 12, 2018)— When White Plains Hospital opened its doors in 1893, it did so with the same mission that guides it today—to provide exceptional care, every day to members of the community. In that spirit, as the Hospital marks its 125th anniversary in 2018, its employees are leading a yearlong program to benefit children, seniors and low-income families throughout the Westchester region.

Throughout 2018, Hospital employees will come together to collect and donate items to various local charities as a means of giving back to the community that has long supported its growth and evolution.

The donation drives kicked off in January with the Hospital’s Marketing, Foundation, and Human Resources departments contributing children’s cold weather accessories to the Don Bosco Community Center in Port Chester. Coinciding with American Heart Month in February, the Hospital’s Critical Care Division donated 125 pedometers to the White Plains Senior Center. This month, the EVS, Food Service, and Radiology & Pathology departments will team up to collect new pajamas and books for children to be donated to Pajama Program, a nationwide charity providing new pajamas and books to children in need.

“This donation drive extends our commitment to care that goes beyond the clinical, and lets our employees engage with the community in a way that’s very personal and meaningful,” explains Dawn French, White Plains Hospital’s Vice President of Marketing and Community Relations.

In addition to the charitable donations, a special website dedicated to the anniversary, wph125.org, has been created to showcase the Hospital’s remarkable history. The website features personal reflections and memories submitted by staff, patients and community members. White Plains Hospital was founded when 22 women and three men came together to establish a voluntary, not-for-profit hospital in the rural village of White Plains to care for their fellow residents. Today, the Hospital and its physician practices see more than 200,000 visits annually.

“Our community has been such a vital factor in our success,” said Ms. French.  “Since our beginnings in 1893 as a four-room building to the modern hub of advanced care we are today, the community has supported our growth and helped expand our mission so that we are now able to provide exceptional healthcare to all of Westchester.”

The year’s festivities will culminate with a 125th anniversary gala in September at the Sleepy Hollow Country Club, the site of the organization’s first fundraising gala in 1956.

“Physician Talks” Commence on Multiple Health Topics

Rachana Shukla, M.D., who provides a range of routine, preventive and primary care services for patients at White Plains Hospital Medical & Wellness in Armonk, recently spoke to residents at The Bristal Assisted Living at Armonk as part of a new series called “Physician Talks.” During the discussion, she talked about the benefits of preventative medicine through lifestyle choices, wellness through proper diet, forms of exercise, smoking cessation, vaccinations, screenings, and communication with family and physicians.

The Bristal at Armonk is the second assisted living community in Westchester for The Engel Burman Group. White Plains Hospital Urgent Care Center in Armonk

Since last fall, Armonk residents have had one of the region’s top urgent care centers right outside their doors.

White Plains Hospital Medical and Wellness, a 24,000-square-foot facility on Armonk’s Business Park Drive, opened last November and has served thousands of patients from northern Westchester and Connecticut.

“What people will find in Armonk is urgent care that goes well beyond basic services,” says Frances Bordoni, Senior Vice President of Ambulatory and Physician Services and Business Development at White Plains Hospital. “Our physicians are able to diagnose and treat a wide variety of conditions. They have access to the Hospital’s extensive clinical resources, and they can support patients after an urgent care visit, right here in the community, through referrals to and communication with our extensive physician network.”

The urgent care center is geared towards patients with injuries or illnesses that require immediate medical attention but aren’t necessarily serious enough to merit a trip to the emergency room. This includes sore throats, the flu, or common sprains.

“As one of only two hospital-operated urgent care centers in New York State, we are able to provide a higher level of care than most urgent care centers that offer only basic labs, basic x-rays,” says Farrukh Jafri, M.D., Co-medical Director of Urgent Care. “Here you’ll always be seen by an Emergency Medicine physician. We also have on-site imaging, and we can analyze blood work and labs in real time.”

The center is open seven days a week, from 3 to 11 p.m. on weekdays and from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends, while a full-service Diagnostic Imaging Center is open weekdays from 8 a.m. until 8 p.m. and weekends from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m. For more information, the public is invited to call 914-849-7900 or visit www.wphospital.org. White Plains Hospital Medical & Wellness Celebrates 1st Anniversary in Armonk with Family Fun Day

White Plains Hospital, Burke Rehabilitation Hospital and Equinox Fitness Club are partnering to celebrate the one year anniversary of WPH’s Medical and Wellness facility in Armonk with a Family Fun Day on Saturday Oct. 1.  The event, which will feature a variety of games and activities for children and adults alike, will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the 99 Business Park Drive parking lot and is free and open to the public.

For Kids

Children can enjoy a day of fun-filled activities including a visit to the Ted E. Bear clinic, which uses stuffed animals to explain how to treat a variety of ‘boo boo’s and alleviate fears for children surrounding medical care. The first 100 children will receive a free teddy bear to take home.

For Grown-Ups

Equinox will also be on hand offering an array of classes and demonstrations to help families get active and stay in shape. For those looking to really break a sweat, the Armonk Fire Department will be running an obstacle course designed to be as fun as it is challenging.

For All

The new state-of-the-art White Plains Hospital Medical & Wellness facility will be on open for tours with physician meet-and-greets. Mammogram scheduling and on-site flu shots will also be available.

The afternoon includes something for everyone including live music, balloon sculpture, raffles and free giveaways, food trucks and pumpkin painting, courtesy of DeCiccos. To give back to the community, guests are asked to bring canned goods for donation to the Armonk Food Bank. The White Plains Hospital Medical and Wellness facility opened in late 2015 and features an urgent care center, comprehensive imaging center, and multispecialty outpatient physician practices in a variety of specialties, including primary care, pediatrics, endocrinology, neurology, cardiology and more.  The modern, spacious facility is located at 99 Business Park Drive in Armonk, just off route 22 and I-684.
