September 28, 2017 by The Inside Press

To debut: New store, Food Truck & BBQ Event on 10/14

Located on 120 acres of the scenic Hudson Valley in Cortlandt Manor, Westchester, Hemlock Hill Farm (500 Croton Ave. / 914-737-2810 / www.HemlockHillFarm.com) has just completed a major property renovation for Fall which includes the opening of a new market storefront open seven days a week/365 days a year which sells a range of their all-natural farm pastured raised meats in a variety of cuts & roasts, whole hog or lamb for barbeque & fresh poultry processed on the farm each week. The store also sells their fresh seasonal produce & over 200 artisanal products including locally grown honey, maple syrup, flowers, fine cheeses, yogurt, fresh made breads and Hemlock Hill’s pepper jelly, marinara & hot sauces, bone broth, pickled beets, carrots, cucumbers & more. The store is open Mon-Wed 9am-6pm; Thur. 9am-7pm; Sat. 7:30am-5:30pm; and Sun. 7:30am-2pm. The store also sells a selection of lamb skins & cowhides, and the farm just added a food truck on the property which features dishes made with delicious Hemlock Hill meats & produce.

On Saturday, October 14 from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Hemlock Hill Farm will be hosting a special family BBQ event all day with all the great farm fresh foods served at the food truck, plus special BBQ items for the event in addition to craft beer tasting from their growing selection (which includes Captain Lawrence, Peekskill Brewery, Black Hog, and Six Point Breweries). The event will also offer tours of the property & their seasonal pumpkin patch as well as Live Jazz Music from The Adirondack Trio featuring Steven Frieder on saxophone, Luke Franco on guitar and Bob Meyer on drums & cymbals.

Established in 1939 by Bronx native Nicolas J. DeMaria, Hemlock Hill Farm is one of the largest family-owned farms in the region (third generation) and one of only a few in the United States who grow fresh produce, have both poultry & livestock, onsite processing and a farm store. ‎This fall & winter they are planning to do several more special events (including events with prominent chefs & Westchester residents), some to take place in the upstairs corridor of the newly renovated main building. The ground floor is the market storefront now officially open 365 days a year; the upstairs has a charming, modern barn design and a stunning birds eye view of property and the breathtaking Hudson Valley landscape.

All About the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival on October 14!

August 30, 2017 by Dawn Evans Greenberg

Notes from the Festival’s Founder!

For one glorious day each fall, authors, readers and their families flock to downtown Chappaqua for the Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival (CCBF). Founded by a group of volunteers in 2013, the festival is now considered the preeminent children’s book festival in the tri-state area.

More than 90 children’s book authors and illustrators from as far away as Maryland fill the daylong festival with laughter, excitement and fun for children of all ages. Authors take the time for conversation and inspiration, to demonstrate the art of illustration and to read aloud favorite books in the adjacent St. Mary the Virgin’s garden. Attendees can expect festival favorites such as Rosemary Wells and Jane Yolen to return plus new authors such as Betsy and Ted Lewin and Roxie Munro.

Families can find additional activities from book making to balloon animals to a Gaga pit in the family fun area. Food trucks and the Great Chappaqua Bake Sale provide many lunch options and scrumptious dessert and treats.

Since it’s inception The Great Chappaqua Bake Sale has raised more than $130,000 for Share Our Strength’s No Kid Hungry campaign and has connected children with more than 1.3 million meals. “It’s hard to believe this will be our eighth year working to raise monies to fund school and summer meals programs for kids in New York State. The Great Chappaqua Bake Sale community of supporters and volunteers make this event successful each year and we are particularly inspired by the many children who devote their time and passion to helping children in need,” noted Alison Spiegel, one of the Bake Sale founders.

A portion of the proceeds from the CCBF go to JCY-WCP literacy programs in schools throughout Westchester. The fifth annual CCBF is on Saturday, October 14th, from 10-4 pm. Admission is free. Cash and credit cards are accepted for book and food purchases. Free parking all day available at the nearby Chappaqua Metro-North train station.

For information on sponsorship and volunteering, visit www.ccbfestival.org or visit us on Facebook at Chappaqua Children’s Book Festival.

Northern Westchester Hospital to Celebrate in “Leading The Way, Together” November 18 Gala

June 3, 2017 by The Inside Press

David William Miller, M.D., Chief of Anesthesiology

Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) will hold its Annual Benefit themed “Leading The Way, Together” on Saturday, November 18, 2017 at the Saw Mill Club, 77 Kensico Drive, in Mount Kisco.

The Hospital will pay tribute to physician honoree, David William Miller, MD, Chief of Anesthesiology and to community honoree, Nancy Karch, Chair of Northern Westchester Hospital Board of Trustees. The benefit co-chairs are Albert and Doris Chance and Steven and Harriett Libov.

Dr. Miller, a resident of Armonk, New York, and a MEDNAX-affiliated anesthesiologist, has served as Chief of Anesthesia at NWH since 2003. He is a member of the Northern Westchester Hospital Medical Board, Board of Trustees and Foundation Board.

In addition, he and his wife Lauri are active philanthropists and benefactors of Northern Westchester Hospital, contributing to the Laurie Bass Sklaver Infusion Center and the Capital Campaign for the first phase of the Hospital’s Surgical Services Modernization, and donating to the Leukemia Society and the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund.

Ms. Karch, a resident of Katonah, is a former Senior Partner of the international consulting firm McKinsey & Company where she spent 26 years; she joined the Northern Westchester Hospital Board of Trustees in 2006. Since then, she has been involved in some of the most consequential decisions in the Hospital’s history.

Nancy Karch, Chair, NWH Board of Trustees

Under the leadership of immediate past Board Chair The Honorable Robert Spolzino, Ms. Karch chaired the committee that led the search for a new parent, culminating in January 2015, when Northern Westchester Hospital became part of Northwell Health, New York State’s largest healthcare system. When she became Chair of the Board in 2015, Ms. Karch led the transition. In 2015, she was appointed to serve on Northwell Health’s Board of Trustees.

The “Leading The Way, Together” benefit will take place at the Saw Mill Club and the menu will be provided by Abigail Kirsch. Cocktails begin at 6:30 p.m. with dinner at 8 p.m. For additional information, contact Gaby Golod Greenwald at 914.242.8392 or ggreenwald@northwell.edu.
