The New Castle Historical Society proudly announces its “Castles of New Castle” Annual House Tour to be held Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 9:30 am until 2:30 pm. The New Castle Historical Society, located in the Horace Greeley House Museum in Chappaqua, is a non-profit organization dedicated to preserving and interpreting the history of New Castle. All proceeds raised from this event help the Society to fulfill its mission of historical discovery, education, community outreach, and research. The NCHS is a member supported organization, which relies on the generosity of its members and private donors to further its mission and stewardship of the Horace Greeley House.
Since the Town of New Castle’s incorporation in 1791, its residents have been beneficiaries of its rich and varied history. This dynamic history is reflected in the houses and residences that the people of New Castle call home. Evidence of the town’s early rural Quaker past to its present life as a thriving suburban hub – can be seen in the various homes featured on the tour.
House Tour ticket-holders will also have the opportunity to dine at the Chappaqua Tavern, Crabtree’s Kittle House, Chappaqua Station, Old Stone Trattoria, Le Jardin du Roi, Local, Sherry B’s, and Quaker Hill Tavern for a 15 % discount with their House Tour ticket on the day of the Tour. Tickets for the tour are $50 for members and $75 for non-members of the Society. Tickets may be purchased on the Society’s website at www.newcastlehs.org or in-person at the Horace Greeley House Museum, 100 King St. Chappaqua, New York.

Teams up with Byram Hills in a Run for Hope!
Team Daniel is getting ready to follow up its successful Miles for Miles fundraiser in 2015 with another 5K cross-country run and ‘go as far as you like’ track walk in support of mental health. The event will be held at Byram Hills High School on June 5, 2016 with registration from 8-9 a.m. or on active.com(search for ‘Team Daniel’) with the run/walk, food, entertainment, awards and raffles from 9AM to noon.
This year we are again thrilled to have four time Boston and New York marathon winner Bill Rodgers join us, along with State Senator David Carlucci and mental health advocate Hakeem Rahim.
1 in 4 people in the US live with mental illness, including 1 in 5 children; our children are more stressed, anxious and depressed than ever and suicide is the second leading cause of death in young people ages 15-34.
Team Daniel advocates for the best care for people living with serious persistent mental illness, including schizophrenia, bipolar disorder and major depression, and would add eating disorders to this list. 
We support programs for suicide prevention, advocate for the use of integrated medical and mental health care, and believe that treatment for addiction needs to address co-occurring, underlying mental illness. We will have representatives from many mental health organizations available to speak to including NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) Westchester, Brain and Behavior Research Foundation, Mental Health Association of Westchester, American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and the Harris Project(advocates for treatment of addiction and co-occurring mental illness).

JAKE KLEIN RECEIVES YOUTH LEADERSHIP AWARD
The nonprofit group Neighbors Link Northern Westchester recently recognized two Chappaqua teens for their exemplary volunteer service.
Jake Klein was honored with the Agnes Hassell Youth Leadership Award. The son of Norma and Bruce Klein, Jake has volunteered for four years with Neighbors Link, which gives its youth leadership recognition each year in April, National Volunteer Month.
“Jake was the youngest person ever to be selected as an EXEC for our Tuesday night ESL tutoring program,” said Amy Werner, Volunteer Coordinator. “EXEC stands for Executive Leader,” Jake developed and implemented a science program for the children in Learning Links, our after-school program. He shows great compassion for our clients and commitment to our mission of integration.”
“I really enjoy working with the kids in Learning Links,” said Jake. “Volunteering at Neighbors Link has helped me develop my leadership abilities, as well as cultural competence. These skills will stand me in good stead when it’s time to apply to college.”
ABBY NIMETZ RECEIVES STUDENT VOLUNTEER AWARD
Chappaqua resident Abby Nimetz was honored with the Neighbors Link Student Volunteer Award. The daughter of Irma and Warren Nimetz, Abby has volunteered for four years with Neighbors Link. Abby is an EXEC in the Learning Links Club at Horace Greely High School. “EXEC stands forExecutive Leader,” commented Amy Werner, Volunteer Coordinator. “Abby is dedicated, reliable, and consistent. Starting in May she will be working for us as a senior intern and we are excited to have her in this enhanced role.”
“I really believe in the mission of Neighbors Link so I do what I can to spread the word about them throughout the community,” said Abby. “The importance of the mission is the reason I have continued to volunteer here for so many years.”
Headquartered in Mt. Kisco, Neighbors Link Northern Westchester has as its mission to strengthen the whole community through the healthy integration of immigrants. It runs essential programs for area immigrants, including ESL (English as a Second Language), adult education, workforce development and legal support services.
