May 26, 2015 by The Inside Press

rabbi_josh_stromCongregation B’nai Yisrael (CBY) of Armonk announced today that its congregation elected Rabbi Joshua Strom as its new permanent Rabbi, effective July 1, 2015.

Rabbi Strom is currently serving as an Associate Rabbi for Temple Shaaray Tefila in New York City. He received his bachelor’s degree in English from Colgate University and was ordained by the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in 2008.

“We are extremely excited to welcome Rabbi Strom to our congregation and local Jewish community,” said Lisa Broomer, president of CBY. She added, “we think that Rabbi Strom will bring just the right combination of new ideas and respect for tradition to our congregation with boundless amounts of enthusiasm and passion for our shared Jewish values and beliefs. Armonk Resident Joins fifth Annual Lustgarten Foundation NYC Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk

April 17, 2015 by The Inside Press

Armonk resident Debbie Heidecorn to join annual walk on Sunday April 26th to raise awareness and funds for the Lustgarten Foundation funding pancreatic cancer research.
Armonk resident Debbie Heidecorn to join annual walk on Sunday April 26th to raise awareness and funds for the Lustgarten Foundation funding pancreatic cancer research.

Armonk resident Debbie Heidecorn will join fellow New York and tri-state area residents in honor of her father by participating in The Lustgarten Foundation’s fifth annual New York City Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk. The walk will be held on Sunday, April 26, at Pier 84 in Manhattan’s Hudson River Park.

The Lustgarten Foundation is the nation’s largest private foundation dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research. Due to Cablevision’s support of The Lustgarten Foundation, 100 percent of every dollar that Debbie and her fellow walkers raise will go directly to pancreatic cancer research.

In 2007, Debbie and her family were shocked to discover that her 84-year-old father Sidney had pancreatic cancer. A routine scan for his heart condition had revealed a shadow on his pancreas. Despite being caught at the earliest stages, they struggled to find a doctor willing to treat his condition due to his age, but eventually a successful pancreatectomy gave her father eight more years of life. To celebrate, Debbie wanted to find a way to give back, and once she found out about The Lustgarten Foundation’s New York City Walk in 2013, she immediately joined with her family as Team “Big Sid.” Sadly, her father passed away in October 2014. But Debbie and her family are passionate about returning to the walk this year to help advance research for an early detection test.

Debbie believes that participating in the walk is an uplifting way to honor her father’s memory. And for Debbie, it is also fulfilling to know that 100 percent of all money she raises goes directly to pancreatic cancer research.

“Debbie’s incredible determination is shared by the many participants who join with the Foundation to walk each year in support of raising awareness and funding for pancreatic cancer research,” said Lustgarten Foundation Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer Kerri Kaplan. “We’re all walking together in the spirit of unity and hope that with more research, we will find a cure.”

The Lustgarten Foundation’s New York City Pancreatic Cancer Research Walk at Pier 84 in Manhattan’s Hudson River Park (between 43th & 44th Street and the West Side Highway) will begin at 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 26, with registration starting at 8:00 a.m. For more information about the walk and to register, please visit www.curePC.org.

About Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer is swift and silent, often undetected until it’s too late. The overall five-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer is seven percent and most with advanced cancer die within a year. There are no early detection tests, no effective long-term treatments and, unless the cancer is surgically removed in its earliest stages, no cure. It is the fourth-leading cause of cancer deaths in the United States. For more information about pancreatic cancer, please visit: www.curepc.org/infographic.

About The Lustgarten Foundation

The Lustgarten Foundation is America’s largest private foundation dedicated to funding pancreatic cancer research. Based in Bethpage, New York, the Foundation supports research to find a cure for pancreatic cancer, facilitates dialogue within the medical and scientific community, and educates the public about the disease through awareness campaigns and fundraising events. The Foundation has provided millions of research dollars and assembled the best scientific minds with the hope that one day, a cure can be found. Due to the support of Cablevision Systems Corporation, a leading media and telecommunications company, 100 percent of every dollar donated to the Foundation goes directly to pancreatic cancer research. The Lustgarten Foundation and Cablevision are also partners in the curePC public awareness campaign in support of the fight against pancreatic cancer. For additional information, please visit www.curePC.org.

Mobile Based, Eco Friendly Taxi Co. Debuts in Westchester–“CASTLE CAB CORP.”

November 11, 2014 by Inside Press

A long anticipated and much needed transportation service has arrived toIMG_0013 (2) Northern Westchester. Taxicab veteran and Armonk resident, Jason Rosenzweig, has tapped into an unmet need in the local marketplace, a convenient, cost-effective, professional and environmentally friendly taxicab company.

Launched a month ago, Castle Cab Corp. makes getting around North Castle and its surrounding communities easy for residents of all ages. As a mobile based cab company, this upscale taxi service with a fleet of eco-friendly, brand new Prius V hybrid sedans, accepts both on demand and advance reservations and is just a call, tap, or a click away.

“After a wonderful 25 years in the New York City yellow taxicab business, I am thrilled to debut Castle Cab Corp, an exciting new venture that will provide app-based, on demand, reliable, safe, and economical transportation 24/7 to Armonk and the surrounding communities,” said Rosenzweig. He has teamed up with childhood friends, Andrew and Edward Stoppelman of Red Oak Transportation, one of Westchester County’s premier luxury transportation companies for Castle Cab Corp.’s office operations and maintenance.

Together, they have over 75 years of experience in the taxicab business. “It was a handshake over a good idea and it represents another generation of cab company owners joining together.” Just as Mr. Rosenzweig’s father had a long friendship and business relationship with Andrew and Edward’s dad, he now, with that same respect and trust, joins forces with them.

“Castle Cab Corp., in partnership with Red Oak, is unique in its use of mobile based technology, inclusive consistent pricing, and employment and training of each uniformed and professional driver.” said Rosenzweig. “The local marketplace has not seen anything like this.” The white cars with blue lettering are easy to spot around town, and the drivers are sporting logoed shirts, jackets, and hats. Beyond on demand requests, Castle Cab Corp. takes advanced reservations, has dispatchers working around the clock to manage efficient pickups and offers set pricing inclusive of tax and tip.

“We are looking to serve the community from business people to families, nannies, children, and seniors” says Mr. Rosenzweig. “That means providing service to train stations, airports, medical appointments, after school activities, shopping, special events, dining, parties, and the like. The best part is that the app allows for vehicle tracking, so you can see the cab on its way, and can be in constant contact with the driver. As a parent, priceless.”

Castle Cab Corp.’s primary service area is to towns in the vicinity of Armonk including Bedford, Mount Kisco, Chappaqua, Pleasantville, North White Plains, White Plains, Purchase, West Harrison, and surrounding areas. Service requests outside the primary area will also be honored.

Castle Cab Corp. can be reached at 914 273 2535, info@ridecastle.com, or simply go to ridecastle.com. To request a ride, on demand or in advance, download the app, reserve online, or call the office. You can create an account for you and your family.
