Greyston to Celebrate Yonkers at Annual Gala

June 9, 2016 by Inside Press

greyston gala On June 15, 2016, Greyston will host its Annual Gala at X20 Xavier’s on the Hudson. The evening cocktail party, which begins at 6:30 p.m., will highlight the success of Open Hiring and honor the Yonkers community, core to all Greyston programs. Special honorees at this year’s benefit are Sobeida Cruz, Founder of Charter School of Educational Excellence and Ken Jenkins, Westchester County Legislator.

The event will be a memorable and delicious evening with food prepared by acclaimed chef Peter Kelly. Yonkers Brewing Co. will be providing the beer and Yonkers distillery, Nahmia et Fils has created a special Celebrate Yonkers cocktail to add to X20s already outstanding selection of wines and spirits. Yonkers resident, Joe D’Lando will provide the music to complement this amazing setting. Naturally, there will be decadent Greyston Bakery brownies for dessert, including the newest Vegan Chocolate Fudge Brownie and Snickerdoodle Blondie.

Members of the Greyston Community who have made changes in their lives through Open Hiring will share their inspiring experiences and guests will have a chance to partake in a silent auction featuring items from the likes of Ben & Jerry’s, Winston and Son Jewelers, Yonkers Brewing Co., Shakespeare in the Park, Sound Associates and many more.

“We are thrilled to extend the invitation for Greyston’s Annual Gala. This year is particularly special for us as we bring Open Hiring to the national stage, sharing Greyston’s sustainable, holistic, people-centric business practices with others. Your participation in this event makes it possible for Greyston to expand our impact, creating thriving communities within and beyond Yonkers.” Says Mike Brady, CEO and President.

Greyston roots its work in a holistic approach to individuals and the community. Through Open Hiring, they embrace a person’s potential, providing employment opportunities regardless of background or work history while bringing together the resources needed to succeed in the workplace and to thrive in the community. For over 32 years, Greyston has provided jobs, workforce development, community gardens and environmental education, housing and an Early Learning Center to address the underserved needs of Yonkers residents. Greyston will celebrate the thousands of individuals who have benefited from these services while sharing plans to expand impact beyond Yonkers.

Getting to Know the Greyston Foundation

January 10, 2016 by Inside Press

Yonkers–I toured the amazing Greyston Bakery recently and learned about “Open Hiring” and “Social Entrepreneurship,” the work and mission of the Greyston Foundation in southwest Yonkers. Over any given week, some 75 “Open Hired” employees, i.e.,”no questions asked; just hired,” are baking (mouth watering) brownies and cookies for Ben & Jerry’s ice cream and Whole Foods. Along with health benefits, the employees receive job training and other support to transition back from a variety of difficult circumstances, including prison, into productive members of their community. More coverage forthcoming in future editions of The Inside Press. In the meantime, visit www.greyston.com — Grace
