20 Years of Supporting our Schools: 20th Annual Benefit

 at Trump National Golf Club in Briarcliff Manor on Friday April 25 at 7 p.m.  Join your friends and neighbors for a casual evening (yes- you can wear jeans!) featuring a fabulous and informative showcase of grants in action presented by students and faculty, extensive silent auction, raffle, great food and great company.  As an added bonus, your Benefit ticket purchase also provides you with an all-access pass to Spring Madness–more than a month of discounts and special offers from a large number of participating local merchants.

The annual Spring Benefit is CSF’s biggest fundraiser. Bring your friends and be part of a special evening in support of our schools.

About CSF

The Chappaqua School Foundation was founded 20 years ago with a simple mission: to enhance the education of Chappaqua’s students by funding meaningful initiatives beyond the scope of the school budget.   Since that time, CSF has funded over 200 grants providing nearly $2 million in resources to support innovative programs spanning all curricular areas and all grade levels in all six schools. CSF continues to build a strong partnership with our school district to ensure that there are exciting possibilities for long-term innovation and improvement in teaching and learning, while also allowing our District to maintain its foundation of academic excellence. This collaboration between our school district and CSF fosters innovative projects, such as the iLab, that might not be possible elsewhere without such strong community support. CSF also remains committed to working with teachers with creative educational ideas by funding learning programs that engage our students while increasing their potential for intellectual curiosity and academic excellence and which impact your children’s learning every day.

CSF’s fundraising efforts make it possible for Chappaqua schools to continue to undertake innovative programming and to pilot new teaching tools and methods in classrooms despite the financial pressures impacting our school budget. As our District continues to wrestle with hard decisions necessitated by challenging financial times, our community needs to ensure that our schools and our students have access to cutting edge learning technology and educational innovation.  Now more than ever, CSF and the continued generosity of our community are critical to maintaining the quality of education our Chappaqua students deserve.

The Next Celebrated Mother

During challenging times, strong women rise to the occasion. Despite obstacles posed before them, these women find solutions and conquer the seemingly insurmountable. Lifeworx, a business which provides child care, elder care, housekeeping and lifestyle services, has made it their mission to recognize these women for their achievements. This year at its fifth annual event on May 8 at the Lotos Club in New York City, Lifeworx’s Celebrated Mom award will be announced and bestowed upon a most worthy recipient.

The recipient of the Celebrated Mom award is someone “who has excelled professionally and has been an inspiration to the community while having gone through life challenges,” Lifeworx CEO Bal Agrawal relates. These women are mothers pursuing successful careers while dealing with a significant life challenge. They serve as role models to others and are actively involved in a charity. Previous honorees include Carol Evans, the founder and CEO of Working Mother Media (2010), Hannah Storm, co-anchor of ESPN news (2011), Ali Wing, founder and CEO of Giggle (2012) and Janet Hanson, founder and CEO of 85 Broads (2013).

Lifeworx’s Compassionate Mom Gift will also be announced at the event. This honoree is a woman living in the greater New York area who has at least one child under the age of 16 living with her and under her care for most of the days of the week, during the school calendar year. She is currently facing difficult circumstances such as illness, death, divorce or other severe health of her own or those of a child, spouse or partner and does not have access to services provided by friends or family nor the financial resources necessary to secure child care or household services and does not receive assistance from social services. The Lifeworx Foundation steps in to provide help during her time of need.

Lifeworx grew out of Agrawal’s personal trials and tribulations. “As a single parent managing home, family, work and illness of my late wife, I have first-hand experience of what most moms often face,” he recounts.

Ride for Life at SpinSational on March 22 to Benefit the Pediatric Cancer Foundation

spinsational-wheelJoin Pediatric Cancer Foundation’s Club of Briarcliff Manor and SpinSational Fitness Studio at their third Annual Spinathon, March 22, at SpinSational Fitness Studio on 450 North State Road in Briarcliff  Manor. There are 35 bikes per session. Reserve a cycle by enrolling: pcfclub.briarcliff@gmail.com. Adults are $30 per spin class and kids $20 per class. Must be 4 ft. 9 inches to participate.

Spinning sessions are as follows:

7:30am-8:00am; 8:30am-9:00am; 9:30am-10:00am; 10:30am-11:00am; 11:30pm-12:00pm; 1:00pm-1:30pm, 2:00pm-2:30pm.

Pediatric Cancer Foundation has been a leader, raising awareness and funds for childhood cancer for 40 years. As a non profit organization, PCF funds the vital work of hospitals by allocating money for treatment, patient/parent care, fellowships and research equipment in the study of pediatric cancer.

The Foundation supports several hospitals in the New York City metro area and their affiliates including:

  • Cohen Children’s Medical Center of New York

Did you know that:

  • Brain tumors are the most common cause of solid tumor cancer death in children?
  • Every day 15 new families learn that their child has brain cancer?
  • There are at least 3 children in the Town of New Castle that have recently received this diagnosis?

Taking a stand for our youngest victims by funding targeted pediatric brain cancer research is the goal of A Kids’ Brain Tumor Cure Foundation and on Sunday, March 16th, 2014 (from 2:00 – 4:00pm) we will be holding our 4th Annual “Think Fit For Kids” Family Fitness and Fun Festival at Club Fit (Briarcliff Manor) to raise funds and awareness for this insidious disease.

Over the past 4 years, this event, which is attended by nearly 500 participants and volunteers, has raised over $550,000 in monetary donations and has received over $100,000 in ‘in-kind’ contributions (food, beverages, merchandise, gift cards, etc.) from local Town of New Castle individuals, families, merchants and celebrities. Think Fit For Kids illuminates the collaborative and committed community in which we live and work, and of which we should all be proud to be a member.  But, as you know, research is expensive!  As such, we aim to make Think Fit For Kids 2014 our most successful fundraiser to date!  If we reach our goal of raising $350,000 in 2014, together, we will have raised over $1 MILLION to fight pediatric brain cancer.  That’s pretty amazing.  It takes a village and this village really rocks!!!  Please see the invitation and join us for what is sure to be a day of hope and inspiration for all who attend (and if you have attended in the past, you know we always have a few surprises up our sleeve!)
