“Geocaching” Community-Wide Treasure Hunt to Hit Chappaqua, Friday, June 13th

WHAT: Join the Geocaching (http://www.geocaching.com) craze this Friday the 13th!

Join with friends to find the hidden treasure scattered in the Chappaqua area.  WeeZee – The Science of Play will place two gift certificates–each for a free week of Summer Camp–and three 5-Visit Day Passes in and around Chappaqua.

To find them, use the popular treasure hunt app – Geocaching. Simply register for a free basic membership, visit the “Hide & Seek a Cache” page, enter postal code 10514 and click “search.” Then enter the coordinates of the geocache into your GPS device, which will be your guide in finding WeeZee’s hidden geocache.

Join us on the eve of the annual outdoor mega-yoga event for a special opportunity to meet Matthew Sanford up close and personal, at a special event at the new Equinox Armonk. 

Matthew will read from his memoir, Waking: A Memoir of Trauma and Transcendence, speak about how he uses yoga practice to address the short and long-term effects of traumatic loss and disability and answer questions. The body that I live in suffers, and it has a lot of pain in it, but through my yoga practice, and at my very core, life feels good.” These are the words of Matthew Sanford in a recent interview with YogaCityNYC.  Paralyzed after a car accident at age thirteen, Matthew now teaches yoga all over the world. Says Matthew: “Yoga is for all people and all bodies.”

The following evening, come take your first stretch of summer at MHA’s mega outdoor yoga event, an annual celebration of the connection between physical and mental wellness. Get on Your Mat for Mental Health  brings yogis and yoginis from all over the region to White Plains after work on Wednesday, June 18 at 5:30 pm on Court Street (between Main and Martine) to celebrate the summer solstice. Matthew Sanford will lead the one hour yoga class and Answer the Muse, a spiritually-inspired performance ensemble, will be providing the music before and after class.

We hope you enjoy the second part of our series featuring volunteers who won awards at our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner on May 18!

Samantha Regan, a senior at Horace Greeley High School, received the Agnes Hassell Youth Leadership Award for her dedication in the Neighbors Link High School Volunteer ESL (English as a Second Language) Tutors program. She has been a dedicated volunteer at Neighbors Link since seventh grade.

About tutoring at Neighbors Link, Samantha says, “For the last three years I’ve loved Tuesday nights, where we all come together to improve language skills and build connections with different people in our community.”
