The Chappaqua Craft and Gift Fair Celebrates its 31st Year

Showcasing the Work of More Than 100 Local Artisans and Crafts People
November 7, 10 a.am – 4 p.m., at the Robert E. Bell Middle School

Admire the work of more than 100 local merchants, crafts people and artisans while stocking up on holiday gifts at this year’s Chappaqua Craft and Gift Fair. The Craft Fair will feature vendors exhibiting their fine handmade pottery, unique handcrafted jewelry, designer clothing, handbags and accessories, gourmet food, bath and beauty products and myriad other unique and original items, just in time for the holiday gift season. Admission is free and vendor fees support PTA-run enrichment programs at Bell Middle School.

Guests are encouraged to bring any of the following items for a Donation Alley:
XL clothing and shoes for the homeless thru Midnight Run; gently used books for the Children’s Aid Society; and new Art supplies/kits for the children at Maria Fareri Children’s Hospital, being collected by local Girl Scout Troop 2350.
FREE ADMISSION for ALL! Free Parking is available in the small lot on Senter Street or in the larger main lots off South Greeley Avenue and at the Chappaqua Train Station.
BACKGROUND:
The Chappaqua Craft and Gift Fair is the largest fundraising event held by the Bell PTA and provides the PTA with most of the funding for important student enrichment programs including Liberty Science Center programming, Media Literacy program, Bell Reading Lounge, Character Education, The Hudson Valley Shakespeare workshops, as well as nutrition, sustainability, and after school programming in environmental studies, supplemental music programs and computer programs. The Bell PTA also offers scholarships for field trips, after school programs and other needs for families and students with financial needs. The PTA’s funding of supplemental art and enrichment programs provides young people with outlets beyond academics and sports and offers them global insight and perspective. Streetscape Project: Well Underway

The Chappaqua Infrastructure and Streetscape Project Downtown Infrastructure and Streetscape Project is well under way. Our Streetscape Committee has been working hard for months to come up with specific recommendations for the Town Board to consider. Their recommendations have been incorporated into picture boards which are currently displayed throughout Town. Residents can provide feedback by emailing Feedback@MyNewCastle.org

Making Strides Against Breast Cancer

On Sunday, October 18, more than 30 Bet Torah Nursery School staff members, parents and friends of the Nursery School, joined together at Manhattanville College for the annual American Cancer Society’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk. There were smiles and cheers all around us as we walked through the starting line to begin our 5-mile walk through the campus of Manhattanville and through the streets of Purchase.

This year, our Mitzvah Makers team raised over $11,000 — our highest amount over the 7 years that we have participated in Making Strides. This brings our team’s 7-year total contribution to Making Strides to well over $55,000 (ranking us #9 this year of the 525 participating teams!) After the walk, we all enjoyed a delicious tailgating brunch, hosted by Morah Mindy and her family. Dr. Cary Goltzman (husband of Morah Kathy) again generously provided delicious home-smoked salmon!

Funds raised through Making Strides Against Breast Cancer are used to find causes and cures for breast cancer, to help people get well and stay well from breast cancer, and to empower people to fight back against breast cancer.

Feed Me Fresh “Edible Evening” Raises Over $312,000 for Mount Kisco Child Care Center

Mount Kisco Child Care Center (MKCCC) held its 11th Annual Feed Me Fresh: An Edible Evening on Saturday, September 26th. The evening was hosted by Eric Hadar at his Ivanna Farms estate in Bedford Corners, NY and raised more than $312,000. The annual fundraising event benefits the Center’s need-based scholarship program, which helps provide access to quality child care for working families. More than half of the 145 children at the Center receive scholarship support. Event honorees were MKCCC advisory board and board members, Beverley & Sabin Streeter along with friends and neighbors of the Center, Fran & Maarten Steenman of La Tulipe Desserts in Mt. Kisco.

More than four hundred guests enjoyed live jazz music and delicious tasting menus from top local area restaurants. A highlight of the night was an announcement by NY State Assemblyman David Buchwald awarding the Center a $50,000 grant from the New York State Community Capital Assistance Program.

The event was chaired by Kelly Sullivan, former MKCCC parent and owner of Quaker Hill Tavern in Chappaqua. Honorary co-chairs were Twink & Jim Wood and Sara Weale & John Rudge. Jeffrey Cerutti acted as master of ceremonies and Joe DiMauro, of Mt. Kisco Seafood, was the evening’s auctioneer.

Feed Me Fresh is MKCCC’s garden-to-table, sustainable nutrition program designed to increase the level of appreciation for healthy foods and healthy choices for children at an early age. In 2008, based on the innovative Feed Me Fresh program, Mount Kisco Child Care Center was designated the first slow food school in Westchester by Slow Food USA.
