The Armonk Players celebrates its 20th anniversary with Thornton Wilder’s Pulitizer Prize-winning play, an irrefutable classic of the American theater and a work of warmth and humanity.

Our Town transports us to Grover’s Corners, a place of secret wishes and disappointments, loves and losses, where the people we encounter are shockingly like the ones in our own lives. Meet Emily and George. They’ve grown up together in their small New England town, falling in love in a surprisingly complicated way. Their lives provide the lens through which the story is told, a story that focuses on a village but encompasses the eternal, finding the world in a grain of sand.

A True ‘Chelsea Gallery Scene’ at the Seven Bridges Art Gala

June 2, 2017 by Inside Press

Gorgeous works PLUS sharpened life skills; Seven Bridges Teachers drive home how  ‘Art is a Necessity’

The Sixth Annual Seven Bridges Art Gala was yet again a huge success! Sponsored by the PTA, Seven Bridges student artists, families and teachers mingled over sparkling apple cider while contemplating the visual arts. Parents proudly taking pictures of their children in front of their art works was a frequent site.

Smiles spread across their faces as they listen to their children’s inspirations for their art works. Seven Bridges string ensemble greeted the guests with beautiful music as they entered the gallery space featuring 2D works by 5th, 6th, 7th and 8th graders. To view many of the beautiful artworks from each grade, click here.

Hors d’oeuvres and drinks were served in the inner courtyard where peonies were blossoming guiding the guests to the computer lab where 8th grade students demonstrated the use of auto cad to design their Tiny House Project. Screens large and small displayed the various designs along with 3D models.

Originally conceived by art professionals who happen to be moms, their vision of providing a showcase for the visual arts akin to the West Chelsea gallery scene has come true.

Thanks to Principal Andrew Corsilia’s and Assistant Principal Greg Stiefel’s great commitment to the Visual Arts at Seven Bridges Middle School, Art Teachers, Terry Koshel and Carolyn Elwood, said they were inspired to challenge the students to express themselves and to explore the limits of their imagination… while sharpening critical thinking skills, cooperative group work, critical analysis and the development of media specific skills.

(L-R): Kim Meade, Orchestra teacher; Carolyn Elwood, Art teacher; SoHyun Bae, Co-Chair, Art Gala; Terry Koshel , Art Teacher; and Jialan Wang, Co-Chair, Art Gala

Seven Bridges PTA Chair, Erin Ginsburg and Vice Chair, Kathleen Diamond provided the platform while SoHyun Bae and Jialan Wang served as Co-Chairs of the Art Gala overseeing the entire operation with an ardent belief that Art is a Necessity!

Artist Danielle Leventhal on Painting… and the Excitement about the 3rd Annual Art Around Town

June 1, 2017 by Inside Press

By Danielle Leventhal

Villa, 2017; Oil on canvas; 30 x 40 inches  By Danielle Leventhal

I’m thrilled to be participating in the third annual Art Around Town event in Chappaqua. When this event first started, I was a junior at ‘WashU’ in St. Louis, where I studied painting and art history. I never guessed that I would be able to exhibit my work in the town I grew up in after moving back to New York last May.

Le Jardin du Roi is the perfect place to show my work. I have so many fond memories of birthday brunches, reunions and family dinners at Le Jardin. The work I’m showing for this event is a mix of some older pieces from school and new paintings. In college, I focused on portraits, and my thesis was a zeitgeist collection of paintings that I did based on live-sitters, all female students ages 18-22.

I was interested in the brain and the human ability to be naturally empathetic, and how we can intuitively tune in to another person’s emotions and intentions. Since then, I’ve gone on to explore other subjects in my paintings, including places and landscapes from my memory and old photographs. In all of my work, I am exploring color theory through the application of paint, layers of printmaking and mark-making.

Greeley grad Danielle Leventhal received a BFA in Painting, with a second major in Art History, from the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts at Washington University in St. Louis in 2016. She works in the mediums of oil paint, watercolor, and printmaking. Ms. Leventhal is the recipient of the Jeffrey Frank Wacks Scholarship for Fine Arts, the Mary Cowan Harford Award in Watercolor, and the Scholastic National Silver Medal for Painting. Her paintings and prints will be up the month of June.

Music Conservatory to Celebrate its Own Along with Stars at Golf & Tennis Classic

May 19, 2017 by Inside Press

White Plains Board VP and Hawthorne Student Set to Shine at Fundraising Event

WHITE PLAINS — On June 26, the Music Conservatory of Westchester will hold a star-studded awards dinner following its 16th Annual Golf & Tennis Classic (16th Annual Golf and Tennis Classic) featuring Rock and Roll Hall of Fame icon Darlene Love and Academy Award-nominated actor Chazz Palminteri. Yet, it’s two members within the not-for-profit community music school’s community who arguably might be the biggest stars of the show.

Larry Keiser

Laurence Keiser, who joined the Conservatory’s board in 2000 and currently serves as its Vice President, will receive the White Plains’ organization’s Distinguished Leadership Award for his years of service.  “He is incredibly generous in every way, supporting our mission, serving as Vice President, and connecting us to important community resources,” Jean Newton, the organization’s executive director, said.

“My philosophy may differ from that of some of my fellow board members, but we respect each other’s positions for the good of the Conservatory. I greatly respect the talents and dedication of those with whom I work,” Keiser said.

And while he’s “humbled” by receiving the honor, the White Plains resident stressed.

Alice

“I don’t do what I do for recognition. I do it out of love of music and this institution.”

Speaking of a love of music, Alice Cabral of Hawthorne will also have a big night on June 26. The 12-year-old voice student has shared her love of music with the Conservatory, and has honed her skills there since 2013. She will be the first recipient of the Darlene Love Vocal Scholarship that evening.

“Our Scholarship Program breaks down financial barriers, giving every student a chance to fulfill their musical dreams,” Newton said.  “Alice exemplifies this – she’s a dedicated, talented student and a wonderful young person.  We’re so proud of her.”

So is Alice’s mom Elsa Cabral.

“It is an honor and a privilege to receive this scholarship under the name of Darlene Love. Alice is a very capable girl, she is persistent and responsible. I always tell her that with hard work, she can make her dreams come true.”

She continued, “I extend my thanks to the Music Conservatory. Thank you very much for believing in her and giving her this great opportunity.”

Chazz-Gianna-Palminteri
Darlene Love

Keiser and Cabral are part of a big evening for the Conservatory. Love will receive the Lifetime Achievement Award for her career in the arts. Chazz and wife Gianna will receive the Arts Achievement and Community Leadership Award for their extensive film and theatre credits, charitable work, and arts advocacy.

Performances by Tony-celebrated artists will follow the awards ceremony.  Two-time Tony nominee Constantine Maroulis will emcee and perform along with Tony nominees Robert Cuccioli and Mary Bridget Davies. Tony winner Adriane Lenox will also perform.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the school’s Music Therapy Institute, which provides music programs for those with special needs, its Healing Our Heroes program which provides music therapy for returning military veterans, and its Scholarship program for low-income students.

To purchase tickets or sponsorships, visit www.mcwevents.org For more information or to schedule an interview with any of the honorees or performers, please contact Noah or Andrew at Endless Staircase at staircaseconsulting@gmail.com.
