William Raveis

Spinning to Save Lives

October 21, 2016 by Deborah Raider Notis

ia-n-spin-story-2

On September 15, spin instructor Lisa Gagliardi led a spin class at Equinox to raise money for the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. Sponsored by the William Raveis Charitable Fund, approximately 30 people participated in “Spin for a Cure” to raise research money and greater awareness of cancer research.

The Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation was started in 1946 by the famous radio personality Walter Winchell following the sportswriter Runyon’s death from throat cancer. Winchell led the foundation in honor of his friend until 1972. He was supported by fellow celebrities, including Milton Berle, Marilyn Monroe, Joe DiMaggio, and Bob Hope.  Since its inception, the Damon Runyon Foundation has been responsible for proving the correlation between cigarette smoking and cancer, developing a cure for a patient with Stage IV melanoma via immunotherapy, and founding innovative biotech companies like Juno Therapeutics and Sunesis Pharmaceuticals.

Last year, Bill Raveis, owner of the William Raveis Real Estate company, became involved with the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation after attending a breakfast presentation in Manhattan for the foundation. He was greatly impressed by the foundation’s enthusiasm towards and devotion to finding cures for cancer. The Runyon Foundation gives young scientists significant funding and opportunities to pursue dedicated cancer research indefinitely.

“I believe that all of us, in some form or another, have been affected by cancer, either personally or through family and friends,” notes Lisa Theiss, the Vice President of Business Development at William Raveis’s Armonk office.  Bill Raveis is one of those people. “Bill’s wife, Candy, was diagnosed with AML Leukemia 18 months ago, which makes this cause even more personal for him,” states Theiss, who spear-headed this event with her co-worker Lauren Goldenberg and the Armonk office administrator, Robin Lechner. Bill and Candy are witnessing, first-hand, the miraculous results of new research and targeted drug therapies.

Every year, members of the William Raveis family participate in a Ride and Walk event that takes place in Norwalk, Connecticut to support the fight against cancer. This year, William Raveis’s 130 offices throughout the country were charged with finding effective ways to fundraise to support the Damon Runyon Foundation. The Armonk office, in an effort to engage family, friends, and the community, decided to host “Spin for a Cure.” Theiss hopes this is the first of many “Spins” hosted by the Armonk office.

Raveis realtors Patricia Del Vecchio and Sandra Scarano contacted family, friends, and clients to participate in the event. “Everyone was very eager and happy to join us for this great cause,” notes Scarano, who is also a personal trainer. Del Vecchio concurred, “It is extremely important to us to do something to help people, and so many people’s lives are touched by cancer.”

The class was led by Equinox spin instructor Lisa Gagliardi. “Lisa has a great energy and played the perfect music,” says Scarano. This was Del Vecchio’s first time participating in a spin class, and she found Gagliardi extremely motivating. “I am definitely going to try another one of her classes.”

“A cure for cancer is very personal and a very big deal for everyone,” says Theiss, who believes that this is a critically important cause in which most people are heavily invested. Between innovative research and dedication to fundraising, the Damon Runyon Foundation is focused on finding a cure for this disease, which takes too many lives. And William Raveis’s Armonk office is doing its part to help.

The William Raveis Real Estate office in Chappaqua has launched a community fundraising effort to benefit the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation. This fundraising effort will tie-in with the William Raveis Ride & Walk event on Saturday, September 12, 2015, 8 a.m. at Jennings Beach, 880 S. Benson Road, Fairfield, CT.

Partner to Help Fund Research

William Raveis chose to partner with the Damon Runyon Cancer Research foundation because the organization “identifies new generations of cancer researchers who have the brilliance, creativity and drive to revolutionize cancer research, and provides them with funding to pursue their boldest ideas in search of new ways to prevent, diagnose, and treat all forms of cancer.”

“William Raveis is headquartered in Shelton, CT, and the Ride & Walk events are being held in both MA and CT for now,” says Chappaqua Team Captain Elise Levine Cooper. “I have to say that just about everybody I know has dealt with cancer on some level and has felt the ravages of this disease. We need to find cures for these cancers and the best way to do this is to invest in the most brilliant minds. That is why we support the Damon Runyon Cancer Research Foundation.

“We want to reach out to our friends and family members in Chappaqua and beyond and ask for any kind of donation because Team Chappaqua is here to make an important difference in the fight against cancer! We are hoping to form a Westchester Ride & Walk in the near future.”

“We have been following the journey of Candy Raveis, William Raveis’s wife as she has shared her personal battle with leukemia with the entire Raveis company since her diagnosis in 2014,” says Susan Myers, Office Manager of the Raveis Chappaqua Office.

One hundred percent of the funds raised goes to cancer research. We welcome everyone to join us on Saturday, September 12 at the Ride & Walk Event.

Please stop by the office at 75 N. Greeley Avenue in Chappaqua to sign up. If you can’t participate, all donations are welcome!

Meet Cindy Glynn of Raveis

January 29, 2014 by The Inside Press

cindy-raveisA Team Player’s Personal Attention Yields Success for Homeowners– whether Buying or Selling your Home!

by Ronni Diamondstein

Integrity, trust, and personal attention are three words that define Cindy Glynn’s business approach. Cindy, a real estate agent at William Raveis Real Estate, has the passion, attention to detail, and commitment to great customer service that makes her an award winning realtor.

Real estate runs deep in Cindy’s blood. In 2001, she left a corporate marketing position to follow in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother who both had successful careers in real estate. Cindy, who grew up in neighboring Briarcliff Manor, currently lives in Chappaqua with her husband and three children and knows the town intimately. “Because I live in Chappaqua, there are times when my personal and professional lives intersect. Having children in the school system and being involved in the community, helps me to stay intimately connected to the day to day in Chappaqua,” Cindy explained.

William Raveis, the #1 family-owned real estate company in the Northeast, opened its doors in Connecticut in 1974 and today has 91 offices in five states. Raveis expanded to Westchester in 2010 when it assembled a team of some of the highest producing agents, Cindy Glynn being among them, to launch its Chappaqua office at 75 N. Greeley Ave. “We are an impressive group,” says Cindy. “And, while we all work with our own clients, we work as a team to benefit our buyers and sellers.

For example, when pricing a home, multiple agents walk through the home and provide independent evaluations which result in more accurate pricing.” Cindy points out another feature that she believes sets Raveis apart from some of the other real estate outfits. “Because Raveis has mortgage and insurance divisions, the firm can help a client to meet all their needs through their home buying process, making the process easy and seamless.”

Cindy, who has now been a multi-million dollar producer for several years, explained her own personal approach to the business. “I consider my greatest strength to be my ability to understand the buyer’s as well as the seller’s interests, and align them.”

Cindy explained that the real estate business has changed dramatically with the technological advances over the past several years. Internet sites such as Realtor.com, Trulia and Zillow have impacted the home buying process by giving buyers an enormous amount of information.

Cindy continued, “Information can be misleading and sometimes inaccurate.  For this reason, it is more important than ever to have a knowledgeable realtor who can clarify and help the buyer interpret the data. That’s where I step in to guide them.”

Today’s real estate market also requires buyers and sellers to be well versed on industry trends and community specific information. “Over the years the process of buying a home has become more complicated,” says Cindy.  “As a seasoned professional, I guide my clients through the process–educating them on the environmental and regulatory issues which often arise.” Using vast resources available to her through her relationships with architects, engineers and the town building department, she is able to anticipate potential problems like those with certificates of occupancy and building permits.

“My philosophy is to do my homework, examine the building records and educate my sellers to avoid issues that could delay a closing.” Cindy also works with her clients to stage their homes. Cindy enthusiastically commented, “It’s amazing how even a modest amount of work beforehand can result in tens of thousands of dollars increase in the ultimate sale price. Light and bright sells. De-clutter, de-clutter, de-clutter.”

When asked what Cindy finds most gratifying about her job, she replied, “Whether I am representing a $2,000 rental client or a two million dollar sales client, I give them the same devotion and personalized attention.  It is difficult to select a home and just as difficult to prepare a home for sale. I equip all my clients with the information necessary to make the right decisions. It makes me feel good that my clients know that our relationship will last long beyond the closing. The many referrals I receive are the greatest thank you I can ask for.”

As the new year begins, Cindy Glynn continues to be optimistic about the housing market in Chappaqua offering this statistic, “In 2013, 216 Chappaqua homes sold versus 131 homes in 2012. This illustrates the great recovery in the housing market that occurred in 2013, a trend we expect to continue in 2014.”
