The Chappaqua Central School District Budget Vote will take place on Tuesday, May 20, 2014, from 7am-9pm at Horace Greeley High School. Volunteers sign up for a two hour shift and are responsible for checking voter registration.  No experience is necessary.

nc-homepageNew Castle is proud to introduce the New Castle Community eNewsletter. The New Castle Community eNewsletter is a free, consolidated listing of information that will be useful for our community. This service is being offered to help communication with residents.

The Town plans to use the eNewsletter to keep residents informed about community news, meetings, events, initiatives, announcements and other important information. In addition, civic groups, not-for-profit and charitable organizations are welcome to submit time, place and date announcements for their upcoming events for inclusion in the eNewsletter free of charge.

Boys and Girls Club Holds 75th Year Alum Party

This past Sunday, Boys & Girls Club of Northern Westchester (BGCNW) alumni, staff and supporters made a toast to a combined 100 years of profound service and influential teaching carried out by just three longtime staff members.

At BGCNW Alumni Cocktail Reception Sunday, February 9 at the Club’s Main Street location, three pillars were lauded for their lasting impact: Aquatics Director Dennis Munson, for 45 years of service; Director of Operations Barbara Cutri, for 30 years of service; and Director of the Pre-School Child Care Center Betty Lou Ostrye, for 25 years of service. Each of the three have dedicated their careers to supporting, educating and encouraging youth from around Westchester County, and setting them on the path to success and good citizenship. More than 200 guests attended Sunday’s reception.

“Dennis, Barbara and Betty Lou are extraordinary individuals,” said Brian boys-girls-club-logoSkanes, executive director of the BGCNW. “There are countless adults who can trace their success back to these three. And because of that, those adults are now enrolling their children in the Club, too.”

Deepening Munson, Cutri, and Ostrye’s ties to the Club and the children it serves are their own histories – all three began attending the Club as children in the 50s and 60s. A deep affinity developed swiftly, and the three found themselves committed to the Club’s mission.

“It’s a tremendous honor to be recognized for doing what I love,” Cutri said. “I’m grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in our members’ lives.

“The pool – and entire Club – is a supportive, safe environment for so many children and teens from around the area, and I’m thankful to be a part of it,” Munson continued.

“The past 25 years have been marked by the best memories and the best people,” Ostrye added.

The Alumni Cocktail Reception coincides with the Club’s 75th anniversary, a year-long celebration that recognizes influential alumni, staff, and philanthropists, and culminates with the annual Humanitarian Award Dinner on June 7. Other events include a golf tournament at Glen Arbor on September 16, and a Family Fun Day for the entire community on September 28.

Since the Club’s founding in 1939, over 100,000 children have walked through its doors and taken part in its life-changing programming.

 

Assemblyman David Buchwald Announces Marriage to Lara Samet

State Assemblyman David Buchwald (D-Westchester) is pleased to announce his marriage to Ms. Lara Samet on Saturday March 1st at the Tarrytown House Estate in Tarrytown, NY.

Mrs. Buchwald, a litigation attorney at Davis Polk & Wardwell LLP, is a native of New Jersey and a graduate of Duke University (magna cum laude) and NYU School of Law (cum laude). Assemblyman Buchwald is a native of Westchester County and a resident of White Plains, where he served on the City’s Common Council for three years prior to his election to the State Assembly in 2012. He represents the towns of Bedford, Harrison, Lewisboro, Mt. Kisco, New Castle, North Castle, North Salem, and Pound Ridge and half of the City of White Plains. Assemblyman Buchwald is a graduate of Yale University, the John F. Kennedy School of Government, and Harvard Law School (cum laude). For the six years prior to serving in the State Assembly, he was an attorney in the tax department at Paul, Weiss, Rifkind, Wharton & Garrison LLP.

“Lara and I are thrilled to be married, and we feel blessed to have shared this special occasion with the people we love” said Assemblyman David Buchwald. “We are partners in every sense of the word, and Lara’s kindness and intelligence make me a better representative for the Westchester communities I serve.”

Think Fit For Kids, Family Fitness & Fun Festival

Did you know that:

  • Brain tumors are the most common cause of solid tumor cancer death in children?
  • Every day 15 new families learn that their child has brain cancer?
  • There are at least 3 children in the Town of New Castle that have recently received this diagnosis?

Taking a stand for our youngest victims by funding targeted pediatric brain cancer research is the goal of A Kids’ Brain Tumor Cure Foundation and on Sunday, March 16th, 2014 (from 2:00 – 4:00pm) we will be holding our 4th Annual “Think Fit For Kids” Family Fitness and Fun Festival at Club Fit (Briarcliff Manor) to raise funds and awareness for this insidious disease.

Over the past 4 years, this event, which is attended by nearly 500 participants and volunteers, has raised over $550,000 in monetary donations and has received over $100,000 in ‘in-kind’ contributions (food, beverages, merchandise, gift cards, etc.) from local Town of New Castle individuals, families, merchants and celebrities. Think Fit For Kids illuminates the collaborative and committed community in which we live and work, and of which we should all be proud to be a member.  But, as you know, research is expensive!  As such, we aim to make Think Fit For Kids 2014 our most successful fundraiser to date!  If we reach our goal of raising $350,000 in 2014, together, we will have raised over $1 MILLION to fight pediatric brain cancer.  That’s pretty amazing.  It takes a village and this village really rocks!!!  Please see the invitation and join us for what is sure to be a day of hope and inspiration for all who attend (and if you have attended in the past, you know we always have a few surprises up our sleeve!)
