Co-Communications Captures “Best of Show” at “Big W” Advertising Club Gala for a Record-setting Third Time

June 11, 2012 by The Inside Press

For the third time in ten years, Co-Communications, Inc., a full-service public relations and marketing firm headquartered in Mt. Kisco, NY, received the “Best of Show” award at the Advertising Club of Westchester’s (ACW) 2012 Big “W” Awards Gala. The event, held on June 6, 2012 at Abigail Kirsch at Tappan Hill, Tarrytown, NY, celebrated the work of Westchester’s top advertising, marketing and public relations talent. With this year’s win, Co-Communications earned the distinction of being the only firm in the awards’ history to receive the award three times.

You're It!" Campaign. Photo Credit: Cathy Pinsky, Pinsky Studio.

“All of us at Co-Communications are truly honored to receive this award,” said Stacey Cohen, founder and president of Co-Communications.  “It is an honor to be recognized by The Journal News and the Ad Club of Westchester with the most prestigious award of the night, especially for work we performed on behalf of such an important, worthwhile organization – the Westchester Children’s Museum.”

Co-Communications received the gala’s top honors for an integrated marketing campaign called “T.A.G. You’re It!”  Originally retained by the Museum in 2011, Co-Communications was tasked with helping the Museum spread the message that they had found their ideal home at Rye Playland.  To achieve this, Co-Communications created an integrated campaign strategy that utilized public relations, branding, traditional and online advertising, social media and even grassroots mobilization.  Through its efforts, Co-Communications reached an audience of over 30 million and generated more than 750 print, broadcast, and online media results.  The campaign resulted in the most letters of support for a cause ever sent to county legislators, 100% unanimous approval from a previously divided legislature and more than 800 new museum supporters.  Construction of the Museum’s permanent home at Rye Playland is now underway.

“The Westchester Children’s Museum has benefitted enormously from its relationship with Co-Communications as we get closer to opening our doors at Playland,” said Corinne Zola, President of the Board of Directors. “The T.A.G. You’re It!” Campaign has been a driving force in raising awareness for Westchester Children’s Museum and influencing change.   We commend their effort and look forward to our continued partnership as well as creating true lasting value for thousands of children in the region.”

The annual Big “W” Awards recognizes excellence in creative and technical achievements in advertising, marketing, and promotion as determined by a panel of distinguished judges.  The “Best of Show” Award is presented to the most outstanding entry in all categories.  Co-Communications was among approximately 350 entries vying for the award.  In addition to earning “Best of Show,” the firm also took home silver Big “W” Awards for various public relations campaigns conducted on behalf of other clients including the Boys & Girls Club and Music Conservatory of Westchester.

Co-Communications headquarters’ are located at 332 Main Street, Mt. Kisco, NY and can be contacted at 914-666.0066.

A New Date for the Prom

June 9, 2012 by Sarah Ellen Rindsberg

In previous years, the prom was held in the beginning of June, several weeks before graduation.  By that date, many seniors had completed the majority of their academic requirements.  For some, the prom was viewed as the beginning of a weekend of revelry.  At the end of the evening, many changed their attire and dispersed to various locations to prolong the party.  Some spent the weekend in a beach house in the Hamptons while others patronized comedy clubs in the city.

This year, in an effort to quell these activities, several changes have been implemented.  Festivities will now take place as follows:  graduation rehearsal at 5 pm on Thursday, June 14, the prom on Friday, June 15, and graduation on Sunday June 17.

The new schedule is the result of many conversations with parents, student council members and the administration.  Principal Mark Bayer explained the rationale:  “We really were looking at all of the events around senior year, to put them in a place where they won’t impact [academics].”  Many activities have been added over the years including a barbecue, beach day and the health fair, highlighting the celebratory ambiance during the school year.  “We felt it sends a mixed message,” Bayer said.

Last year, some parents arrived at the prom at 10:30; bringing flip flops and casual clothes to facilitate the exodus to post prom venues.  This put a damper on the ambiance of the evening.   From now on, students will still be allowed to leave early but they will be prohibited from changing before their departure. Bayer expressed the hope that this year the prom will cease to be “seen as a precursor to other activities.”

In addition, the new date was chosen out of consideration for juniors who are still facing a full course load in the beginning of June.  Bayer noted that “a significant number” of juniors are invited to the prom by members of the senior class.

An Olympic Hopeful – trained in Chappaqua

June 2, 2012 by Sarah Ellen Rindsberg

John Orozco in action

When John Orozco was eight years old he began making the journey from his home in the Bronx to Chappaqua on a regular basis.  He had set his sights on becoming a world class gymnast and chose World Cup as the place to do so.  Today, Orozco, 19, is living and training at the US Olympic Training Center in Colorado.

The program at the Center is extremely rigorous.  All athletes are required to attend two sessions of training daily for a total of five hours.  “It’s a very intense period of training leading up to the Olympic games,”  Orozco observed.  “We’re trying to make my routine and skills very consistent,” he added.  Improvement is facilitated by the coaches and video monitors in the gym which allow the athletes to replay footage instantly.   After the completion of the Olympic trials on July 1, ten gymnasts will be selected to represent the US at the 2012 Olympic Games in London.

Upon graduating from high school, Orozco weighed his options and choose the Olympic Training Center.  “There will be time for college after I achieve my dream,” he said.

Whenever Orozco returns to NY, he carves out time to visit his friends at World Cup.  “Chappaqua NY is like my second home,” Orozco mentioned.  He thoroughly enjoyed  being a member of the boy’s team and found the ambiance in the gym to be both competitive and supportive.  When hunger strikes, he can often be found at Pizza Station or Mario’s Pizza, polishing off a slice.

Jason Hebert, the head coach of the boys’ team at World Cup remembers distinctly the day when Orozco first came to the gym.  Hebert saw Orozco’s innate “raw talent” immediately.    “This was a really special, talented kid,” he noted.
