REST IN PEACE – Miles Applebaum

October 3, 2014 by The Inside Press

Miles Applebaum

Today we received official news of the devastating loss of one of our alumni, Miles Applebaum. He had been reported missing on Monday and his body was found in a nearby forest preserve Thursday evening.

Miles came to Lagond in the fall of 2009, playing guitar in his first band, Sasquatch (dressed like lumberjacks!) and continuing to study with us and perform in numerous bands over the years, developing a particular affinity and talent for jazz. He had a fluid, light touch in his jazz playing but could rock with the best of them.

Today the entire Lagond community is deeply saddened by this loss, remembering a gentle, articulate and always stylish young man. Miles requested that people listen to the song ‘Revelry’ by Kings of Leon, and think of him.

Our love and prayers are now with the Applebaum family as they go through these difficult times. Miles’ mother Shari has requested that we jot down any memories or experiences we have had with Miles for her in order to keep his spirit alive within all of us. Any stories can be sent to the school for us to submit to the family or if you are Facebook friends, please post on Miles’ wall.

The funeral services will take place on Sunday, October 5th at 11:30 am at Congregation B’nai Yisrael, 2 Banksville Road in Armonk, NY. Shiva will be in the Applebaum home beginning at 5 pm on Sunday and extend through Tuesday.

Miles struggled with depression which, it appears, finally overtook him. We strongly urge anyone who suffers from this overpowering disease to speak out and seek proper help and treatment. Depression is a silent killer and not one that can be easily borne alone, a condition it prefers. We will carry the sadness of his struggle with us forever. He was a good man with a lifetime of beautiful gifts to offer.

“So the time we shared it was precious to me
All the while I was dreaming of revelry…”

– Kings of Leon, ‘Revelry’

Charlie, Rosanne and the Lagond community

“While we’ll continue to offer our comprehensive menu of financial planning and investment management services, our new office in Westchester County will enable us to serve our clients living there in a location more convenient to them and will also put us in a position to offer our services to new clients in the County,” said Scott M. Kahan, CFP, president and senior financial planner at FAM Corp.

Kahan’s familiarity with the Chappaqua community will enable the firm to provide top-notch financial services to local residents. Kahan, a longtime resident of Chappaqua, has nearly 30 years of experience helping individuals, families and small business owners reach their financial goals. He began his career in 1982 and founded FAM in 1986. He regularly conducts financial seminars focusing on college planning for parents at Horace Greeley High School, and has served on the Board of Directors for the Horace Greeley Scholarship Fund, a fund that makes up “the difference” between the actual costs of college and all other financial resources available to students and their families.

All of FAM’s wealth managers and financial planners are CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professionals and have extensive experience and proven successes in financial planning and investment for a broad range of clients. Kahan, along with the firm’s other key planners — Viktoria Kamin and Valerie Adelman — enjoy “long-term collaborations” with their clients.

“FAM’s mission is to provide our clients with an individualized road map and offer proven financial solutions and investment strategies to them as they go through their life journey,” says Kahan. “In a nutshell, we believe in ‘planning today, securing tomorrow.’ Our primary goal is to guide our clients and create a path that can only lead to a strong and successful financial future.”
