Teatown Lake Reservation

November 19, 2011 by The Inside Press

There are plenty of fun reasons to visit the Teatown Lake Reservation, one of our area’s great recreation and nature education resources, during the winter … Here are but a few January family and/or adult events planned! Free for members and $5 pp for non members. Call 914-762- 2912, ext. 110, for reservations. For additional programming and more info, visit teatown.org.

Snug Beneath the Snow, Saturday, January 7, 11 a.m-12:30 p.m. Is your blanket made of snow? Learn the survival strategies of animals and plants that use snow as an insulator. A short hike planned to look for animals’ winter homes.

Hike in the New Year, Sunday, January 8, 1 p.m.- 3 p.m. Kick off the New Year with a hearty hike in the frosty air in a hike to Vernay Lake. Look for ice formations along the Waterfall Trail and circle Teatown Lake searching for winter wildlife. On return, toast the New Year with a hot drink. Please note this program is for adults only.

Vulture Venture, Saturday January 14, 11 a.m.-12 p.m. Perhaps one of the most misunderstood of all birds, vultures often get a bad rap. View Teatown’s vultures and find out more about their role as part of nature’s clean-up crew.
