Westchester Community Comes Together Once Again to Raise Money for Wolf Conservation Center

November 17, 2011 by The Inside Press

In what has become a favorite holiday event, over 100 people will again join Atka, the WCC Ambassador Wolf, local restauranteurs, authors and vendors for “Wine & Wolves 2011” at the Waccabuc Country Club Carriage House.

Founded by world-famous concert pianist Helene Grimaud, the Wolf Conservation Center (WCC) will celebrate another successful year meeting its dual mission of education and conservation, with its annual “Wine & Wolves” celebration at the Carriage House at the Waccabuc Country Club. The WCC conducts environmental education programs, and shelters and breeds two species of endangered wolves as part of the federal Species Survival Plan (SSP) program. This year, the WCC will be toasting its two new ambassador wolf pups, Alawa and Zephyr – and with four SSP breeding pairs on site, is anticipating more wolf pups in the Spring!

“Wine & Wolves” is made possible every year through the generous support of the community. Dozens of local restaurants and merchants in northern Westchester and Fairfield County provide “tasting tables” of delicious food, a supply of free and excellent wine, and an abundance of gifts for sale or silent bid as part of the event – and the highlight of the evening is always an appearance by Atka, the WCC’s lead Ambassador wolf!

This year’s participating restaurants and party goods suppliers include Gail Patrick’s Cafe, 121 Restaurant & Bar, Le Chateau Restaurant, Le Jardin du Roi, The Horse & Hound Inn, Crabtree’s Kittle House, O2 Living Cafe, Bacio Trattoria, Mt. Kisco Seafood, Myong Gourmet, Kira Asian Bistro and Sushi Bar, Table Local Market, and Cartwright & Daughters. Kasaro Designs and Mauri Pioppo will have jewels for sale, and authors and artists William Berloni, Neil Abramson, Wendell Minor, Jean Craighead George and Alison Nicholls will have signed artwork and gifts for sale! Lavish, themed gift packages and wine pairings will be offered for silent bid, and a raffle will be held for gift certificates to area restaurants – all to benefit the WCC. And this year’s entertainment will be provided by Chip Andrus – a talented guitarist and the new minister of the South Salem Presbyterian Church!

If you would like to join the celebration and get a jump on your holiday shopping, go to www.nywolf.org to the events calendar and register today (tickets are $75; attendance is limited to 130 and past years’ events have sold out). You may also call 914-763-2373 for more information.
