Steffi Nossen School of Dance Gears Up for Summer with Exciting Programming for All Ages

With summer just around the corner, the Steffi Nossen School of Dance has announced a variety of exciting dance programs for all ages beginning in mid-June. SummerDance 2012 offers a number of dance styles and experience levels including programs for disabled individuals and children with special needs. Students are invited to explore their interests in dance with expanded offerings while they develop new skills in a supportive, relaxed and fun environment.

DiMauro Dance Company In Residence

Join DiMauro Dance at Steffi Nossen for an exciting four-day summer residency for college, professional and advanced level pre-professional dancers. The program, which runs Monday, June 25 – Thursday, June 28 from 10AM-4PM, gives serious dancers the opportunity to take professional company class and learn excerpts of her choreography while dancing alongside DiMauro Dance Company members. Students will be a part of choreographer Jessica DiMauro’s newest works in Steffi Nossen’s professional studios at the Music Conservatory of Westchester. Tuition is $450.

Weeklong SummerDance Intensives

Led by Steffi Nossen alumni Jessica De Mauro and Annie Doss as well as additional guest faculty, the school’s weeklong SummerDance intensives include daily classes in modern, ballet, jazz, pilates, yoga, composition and repertory. Family and friends will be invited to attend an informal showing of works at week’s end. The programs take place from Monday, July 9 – Friday, July 13 and Monday, July 23 – Friday, July 27 from 10AM-4PM each day. Students in fifth grade and up may choose to participate in one or both weeks. Tuition is $475 per week.

Weeklong Hip Hop Intensive

This exciting week of hip hop and break dancing classes includes freestyling and repertory. For fifth grade and up with separate boys only classes. The program, which runs from Monday, July 16 – Friday, July 20 from 10AM-4PM, will be led by faculty member and performer Leilah Joy Bowser with a special summer guest artist. Family and friends will be invited to attend an informal showing of works at week’s end. Tuition is $475.

SummerDance Master Series

New in 2012, the SummerDance Master Series features ten artists in ten days. Each day, a different performing guest artist will present a master class followed by discussion and repertory in various modern and jazz techniques. Artists include Annmaria Mazzini, Tami Mele, Annie Doss, Jonathan Riedel, Lisa Peluso, Lauren Jaeger, Sabatino Verlezza, Barbara Angeline, Alexandra Williamson, and Laura Smith who brings a workshop based on choreography from the musical “Shrek” of which she is a cast member. Geared toward seventh grade and up, the series runs from Monday, July 30 – Friday, August 3 and Monday, August 6 – Friday, August 10 from 10AM-1PM. Tuition is $325 per week, and is open to students in seventh grade and up.

Moving Wheels & Heels Adaptive Dance Intensive

Steffi Nossen’s Moving Wheels & Heels Adaptive Dance Intensive is geared specifically for individuals with disabilities. The program, which runs Monday, June 18 – Saturday, June 23 from 10AM-3:30PM, combines technique, improvisation and movement to enhance creativity, increase strength and range of motion. Led by master teachers Barbara Verlezza, Sabatino Verlezza and Nancy Lushington, this integrated dance experience explores the joys of movement in a safe and supportive environment. Families and friends will be invited to a special showing of works on Saturday. All ages welcome. Tuition is $525 for the entire program, or $25 per individual technique class.

Dance Camp for Children with Special Needs

This accessible three-day dance program is tailored to children with special needs. Students participate in dance, movement, and related arts activities in a warm, supportive and creative environment. Led by Barbara and Sabatino Verlezza the camp embodies the Steffi Nossen Dance Foundation’s philosophy that dance is for everyone. The program will take place Monday, June 25 – Wednesday, June 27 from 9:30AM-12PM. Tuition is $150.
