Welcome to the first kid produced issue of Inside Chappaqua ever! When writing for IC last spring, I lamented to publisher Grace Bennett about how few opportunities there are at school for aspiring young journalists (particularly freshmen), and the idea for an entirely freshman-written issue was born.
I first wish to thank my co-freshman writers. I am thrilled that writing for this issue has given your skills exposure and a chance to have your work published.
I have been impressed by each and every one of you and am so proud of the work you’ve done. I also want to thank Horace Greeley High School English Department Chair Andrew Corsilia and the rest of the freshmen English teachers for their invaluable assistance in recommending some of the most talented writers in my grade.
Last, but most definitely not least, many thanks to Grace for giving me this incredible opportunity at such a young age, and recognizing the hidden wealth of teen writing talent in town. This experience, with its attendant responsibilities, has helped me hone my skills, mature and learn the importance of communication, trust, and, of course, due dates!
So, read on, and enjoy hearing a slightly different–though no less important–perspective on some local issues.
I wish to note too that as this issue was being prepared, the entire community was deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Greeley graduate Evan Lieberman. Our thoughts are with the Lieberman family during this difficult time.
