Cancer Survivor Jordan Fried of Chappaqua to Run NYC Marathon

October 18, 2012 by The Inside Press

Jordan Fried of Chappaqua, a student at Hofstra University, will be running in his third NYC Marathon (PR of 3:13) this year as part of “Fred’s Team” to raise money for cancer research at Memorial Sloan-Kettering.

Fried, having battled leukemia at the early age of three, was treated at Sloan-Kettering in the early nineties. During that time, he remembers a fellow patient and running legend, Fred Lebow – determined to run to raise money for a cure – jogging through the halls of the hospital. It was then that Fried was inspired, and as a cancer-free patient today, he continues to run in honor of Fred and the other pediatric patients of Sloan-Kettering.

Nationally, the 26.2 mile, five-borough race on Sunday, Nov. 4. race broadcast will be available live at 9 a.m. ET on ESPN2 , and at 7 a.m. ET on WatchESPN.com and via the WatchESPN app. ABC will also present a two-hour national broadcast at 4 p.m. Locally, tri-state area residents can tune in to WABC-TV and 7online.com at 7 a.m. ET.
